Comoedia! Back on Stage

For the Teatro Europeo Plautino, we have developed the app Comoedia! Back on Stage, a 2D puzzle game that aims to showcase the works of Plautus and the life of the Roman playwright, who has become a central figure in the European theatrical tradition thanks to his ironic and popular style.

The game:

Players take on the role of Plautus. Outside the theatre, the Punic Wars are raging and Hannibal is crossing the Alps with his elephants, but the show must go on. You must proceed with the auditions and select the most suitable performers for each role, based on their CVs, cross-referencing synopses and information, and keeping an eye on their talents and passions. On stage, it will up to the audience to decide whether the show is a success or not.

There are five plays to stage: show after show, in a dedicated section of the game, a short film starring the actors and actresses of the Teatro Europeo Plautino is unlocked: a direct link between the video game and the theatrical performance.

The aim:

The aim of the project is to pass on Plautus’s legacy to the younger generations, and not only to them, through a game-based approach that offers an experience which is both engaging and educational. The video game thus opens up new possibilities for promoting the Italian theatrical tradition.

Client: Teatro Europeo Plautino, as part of the call for proposals “Action 1.3.4: Support for innovation and investment in businesses in the tourism, services and retail sectors, and in the cultural and creative industries”. Video game developed in collaboration with the IVIPRO Association.

Target audience: Young people, schools, families and fans of puzzle games.
