The Context

The woods of Villa Valmarana ai Nani are a place untouched by time: three hectares of historic greenery in Vicenza, which had been closed to the public for years. When Villa Valmarana decided to open this extraordinary space to visitors, the challenge was not merely to welcome them, but to bring a whole world to life for them.

A woodland is not experienced like a museum. There are no sequential rooms, nor captions on the walls. A tool was needed that could guide every type of visitor without taking the place of the experience of nature.

The solution

We have developed the official Bosco mobile app, available on Android and iOS, designed to serve as a dynamic and accessible guide during the visit.

• Dynamic Content Management System: app’s content (text, images, audio and routes) is managed via a CMS, enabling the client to update the application independently without the need for new releases. The architecture is designed to stand the test of time and adapt to changes in the forest and its cultural offerings.
• Custom interactive map and themed trails: the maps have been designed to reflect the pictorial style of the location. They accurately depict trails, points of interest and multimedia installations with the level of detail that a place like this demands. Four themed trails are organised around the map, each with its own narrative and visitor experience tailored to different audiences.
• Audio guides and multimedia content: for each point of interest, the app offers the option to include text, images and interesting facts. An audio guide accompanies the visitor through the main themes, without overwhelming the experience.
• QR code integration: each code is dynamically linked to the CMS content. Any update to text or images is immediately reflected in what the visitor sees when they scan the QR code
• Accessibility by design: the app is designed to be inclusive. Fonts are available in two variants: a standard font and the OpenDyslexic font, designed for those with reading difficulties, with adjustable font size.

The result

An app designed to inspire and assist. A practical tool for those looking to find their way, a cultural guide for those wishing to explore further, and a quiet companion for those who simply want to take a stroll. All set in a woodland that, after three hundred years, finally has someone to tell its story.
