THE PROJECT
AR Memories was created as part of the Feel Aspromonte initiative, a community and regional marketing project conceived by Tatix.
We were engaged by the Municipality of Sant’Alessio as experts in XR content and developed a WebAR augmented reality solution for them, coordinating the integration of original 3D and artistic video content, viewable via QR codes placed at symbolic locations throughout the village. A synergistic artistic experience where the digital and the real merge to bring the works of digital artists to life, engaging both tourists and the community itself.
ADDED VALUE
WebAR is not merely a container for the artwork but an integral part of the artwork itself. Technology is placed at the service of art, adding value to the works themselves.
AR Memories does not use technology to document or promote cultural heritage; it uses it to expand that heritage, restoring to places and objects a narrative capacity that time had silenced. Augmented reality is the medium through which the community reactivates, shares, and narrates its own traditions. Objects and places in the village, past and present, restored in augmented form within the physical context in which they exist, become a living archive, accessible to anyone there with a smartphone.
A replicable model for villages and regions that wish to build a contemporary narrative without sacrificing their own identity.
CHALLENGE AND TECHNICAL SOLUTION
The proposed WEBAR solution involves the installation of site-specific works, such as video and 3D content by various artists, that can be activated via QR codes on physical objects located throughout the area, such as frames and pedestals. This solution creates an interplay between physical objects, imagery, and technology that enhances the sense of place.
The challenge of this project lay in the diversity of media and artistic works, each with its own meaning and distinct communicative style. The choice of AR technology allowed for a plurality of voices and the elevation of the artworks themselves.
